Hazipur: A woman sarpanch and her family members were today beaten with batons and stones at their residence at Hilalpur in Vaishali district of Bihar.
About six men, carrying batons and stones, barged in the house of Sunita Devi, sarpanch of Hilalpur panchayat, and attacked Ms Devi, her husband and other relatives this morning, a police official said.
Ms Devi sustained serious injuries in the attack and was admitted to the Hajipur Sadar Hospital, he said, adding, her husband and other relatives, including a woman, also suffered injuries.
Land dispute and old rivalry could be the reason for the attack, the officer added.
