New Delhi: The woman who accused climate scientist RK Pachauri of sexual harassment today ripped into TERI, the organization he founded, for creating the post of Executive Vice Chairman for him even though he has been removed as its chief.
"Shamelessness abounds! The news of promotion of a man who stands booked on charges of sexual harassment at workplace...makes my flesh crawl," the woman said in a statement.
Yesterday, Dr Pachauri, who has faced sexual harassment charges for a year, was replaced as Director General of the non-profit think tank by Ajay Mathur, a technocrat who began his career in TERI.
TERI informed its employees that Dr Pachauri will stay on as the Executive Vice-Chairman - a new post. Sources said he will exercise executive powers and retain his fifth floor office.
Dr Pachauri has been accused sexually harassing the 29-year-old woman when she worked as a researcher with him.
The world famous scientist went on leave from TERI and also stepped down as the chief of the UN's top body on climate change, the IPCC, and the Prime Minister's advisory body on climate change.
An internal inquiry committee of TERI found Dr Pachauri guilty of misconduct and he was removed as chief. In July, a court allowed him to visit all but the Delhi and Gurgaon offices of the organization.
The woman has accused TERI of not supporting her.
In her statement, she says that she was pressured by the organization to "settle".
"The governing council is considering giving him operational powers. Reason being, it is required for foreign funding. Right, the act of persistence is best performed by a man who doesn't understand meaning of the word 'no'," the woman said.
Alleging that she was "quarantined" from work for speaking up, she said she was forced to quit while TERI and RK Pachauri are "inseparable"
