Gurgaon:
When police personnel went to the home of a Saudi diplomat in one of Gurgaon's poshest addresses, after receiving a complaint that two Nepali women were being held there against their will, they were left shocked and embarrassed. Women family members of the diplomat slapped the police personnel, spat at them, cursed them and refused to let them into the house, leading to a standoff that lasted almost two hours, said eyewitnesses.
Around 40 police personnel, including policewomen, had gone to the diplomat's fifth-floor flat at Ambience Island around 2.30 pm on Monday. But his family members refused to open the door. When they finally did, they tried to physically prevent the police from entering, the eyewitnesses told NDTV.
When the police personnel managed to enter the house, the diplomat's family members started hitting and spitting on the police personnel. They were reportedly joined by two other Saudi nationals who live in the same building.
"I just could not believe what I saw," said a resident. "The Saudi nationals and their associates kept cursing, spitting and even trying to push some of the cops around."
One policewoman who had claimed to have joined the force recently, said she too had taken blows from the diplomat's family members, and reportedly told the residents that this perhaps "was a wrong day for her to have started her duty".
CCTV footage from the building recording the incident is being examined the police. But senior officers refused to comment, saying the Ministry of External Affairs was aware of the events.
