Umsaw:
At the North East Police Academy's passing out parade women police officers not only outnumber the men but even took home the trophies given out by Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The passing out parade was a big day in the life of young police officers. The Country's Home Minister was there inspecting the guard of honour, the minister even had a combat hat on.
The Academy has never seen so many women trainees. Of the 179 passing out 115 are women.
111 of them are from Manipur. Sophiya Devi is from Imphal. She did her post graduation from Dehra Dun but always wanted to be a police officer.
"Crime against women has been rising rapidly through the nation. We feel insecure about it. We as officers take this pledge to reduce this crime against women," said Sophiya Devi.
The Home Minister addressing the young officers signalled that peace in North East is now within reach.
"Almost all groups and organisations with government appointed interlocutors, I believe that settlements are within reach," said Home Minister P Chidambaram.
And it was women leading from the front all the way.
"It's very very heartening to see women in North East doing so well and they didn't lag anywhere behind the boys. They did very well and can take any challenge," said DG Nepa.
