Mumbai:
Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, sentenced to seven years in jail for raping his domestic help, will be moved from Mumbai's Arthur Road jail after the World Cup final, say sources.
Mr Ahuja was arrested on Wednesday after he was convicted by a Mumbai court for raping an 18-year-old at his home in 2009. He fell to his knees and broke down; his wife Anupam knelt over him, consoling him.
"The topic of shifting the actor out of Arthur Road jail has come up for discussion. Due to the world cup, the decision on where he should be shifted could not be taken," said an IPS officer on condition of anonymity to PTI.
The officer added the police force is currently swamped with handling security for the World cup final tomorrow between India and Sri Lanka.
"After the final match, we would get our men and then We could escort Ahuja to either Thane Central jail, Pune's Yerwada jail or to Nashik jail," the officer added.
In September last year, Mr Ahuja's alleged victim turned hostile though she identified the actor in court. The judge has convicted Mr Ahuja on the basis of DNA and other tests that confirm rape.
