'Worried and tense' for Lalu Prasad, says Shatrughan Sinha; BJP plays down comment

'Worried and tense' for Lalu Prasad, says Shatrughan Sinha; BJP plays down comment
Patna: Shatrughan Sinha did it again. As top leaders of his party welcomed the verdict against Lalu Prasad, the BJP leader from Patna has said he is "very worried and tense" for the RJD leader has prayed that he comes out of jail soon.

"I am very sad that such a beloved national leader like Lalu Prasad Yadav had to go to jail yesterday. I hope he (Lalu) will prove his innocence. My sympathies are with Rabri bhabhi, Ram Kripal Yadav and other RJD leaders," said the actor-turned politician about Mr Prasad being jailed by a Jharkhand court on charges of corruption.

The BJP, as it is often called upon to do for Mr Sinha, rushed to explain. "He may have said it as a colleague in parliament. But the BJP stand is clear. We welcome the verdict," said spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain.

Mr Sinha did say that he was speaking for Mr Prasad in "his personal capacity as he is a good friend". Shatrughan Sinha was Lalu's senior at Patna University.

But he had handed an opportunity Lalu Prasad's 24-year-old son Tejaswi to promptly state, "Shatruganji knows the end result of this conspiracy hence he supports us."

The RJD has alleged that though chief minister Nitish Kumar of the JD(U) and the BJP have split in Bihar, they have conspired to frame Lalu Prasad.

In June this year, Nitish Kumar ended a 17-year-old alliance with the BJP and booted it out of the Bihar government.

Less than a month later, Shatrughan Sinha got a rap on the knuckles from his party leadership for saying that Nitish Kumar is "well qualified for the PM's post."

Mr Kumar had graciously accepted the compliment and described Mr Sinha as his older brother.
