Kochi:
Two days after the Directorate General of Shipping ordered a probe into the hit-and-run accident involving the fishing vessel Don-1, a Navy Clearance Diving team has located the wreck of the fishing vessel. Don-1, with seven fishermen aboard, sank early Thursday morning off the Manakodam light house, 20 nautical miles off Kochi harbour entrance. Two fishermen died, three were injured and three others went missing.
A 10 member Navy Clearance Diving team from Southern Naval Command reached the wreck of the Fishing Vessel Don-1 late this evening. The Divers found the wreck lying at the bottom of the sea at 47 meters with the boat's cabin damaged and fuel still leaking. However the hull was relatively intact.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the Directorate General of Shipping has said that on the basis of the information provided by the Coast Guard, there is a possibility that MV Prabhu Daya (Singapore flag) maybe involved in the collision with fishing vessel DON-1. As per the request of D G Shipping, the owners of the vessel have readily co-operated and the vessel has been diverted to Chennai where she is expected to reach by Monday morning.
The Navy Clearance Diving team will continue its effort to locate bodies of fishermen inside the boat tomorrow.
