P Chidambaram was addressed a presser on Yashwant Sinha's comment on the economy.
P Chidambaram is in agreement to Yashwant Sinha about what he said on the economy. Writing in the Indian Express today, Yashwant Sinha, the country's former finance minister, indicted Arun Jaitley for making a "mess" of the economy, which, he says, owes it ruin partly to the hurried introduction of the national sales tax, the GST, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's shock ban last year of high-denomination notes. Mr Chidambaram at a presser said, "We welcome Yashwant Sinha's statement."
Here are the highlights of the presser: - TV interviews taken off, social activists being investigated on trumped up charges, judges being indirectly punished, voices being silenced by brutal killing.
- Yashwant Sinha absolutely correct.
- Millions have lost their jobs. Growth rate is actually at 3.7 per cent.
- Congress has highlighted these for the last 18 months. We were asked to shut up, we shall not shut up.
- Government has said debate is not allowed. But Congress will continue to speak loudly and boldly.
- How long will government hide behind PM Modi's rhetoric. Haven't heard achhe din slogan in a while.
- Even big businesses are now complaining that GST implementation has created difficulties.
- Business are struggling for working capital.
- We welcome Yashwant Sinha's statement.
- Government can no longer say we are the fastest economy.
- They said it for four quarters, their bluff was caught.
- Now they say we are one of the fastest growing economy.
