Bangalore: Doctors say BS Yeddyurappa is likely to be discharged from hospital today. He was sent to a hospital just a few hours after he arrived at the Bangalore Central Jail on Saturday. The former Karnataka chief minister had surrendered in the Lokayukta court after he was denied bail in a land denotification case.
Mr Yeddyurappa, who is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of Bangalore's Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, has filed a bail petition before the High Court which will be heard on Thursday.
While the BJP central leadership would be embarrassed by the timing of Yeddyurappa's arrest - coinciding as it does with L.K. Advani's anti corruption yatra - he is receiving visitors who are still expressing their support to the man who has seen a dramatic downward tumble since becoming the BJP's first chief minister in South India.
"BSY is our political father. It is very painful to see him in this condition. We pray to the goddesses to give him good health - that is most important - that is the only prayer that we can have." said S Ramadas, Karnataka's Education Minister.
Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and some ministerial colleagues visited Mr Yeddyurappa in the hospital on Sunday.
Mr Yeddyurappa had resigned as chief minister on July 31, in the wake of his indictment by the then Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde in an illegal mining scam.
The former chief minister was sent to jail on Saturday after much drama. Mr Yeddyurappa surrendered at around 3.45 pm in a Lokayukta court and was sent to judicial custody till October 22, Saturday next. This after a special court hearing land cases against the BJP leader rejected his anticipatory bail plea and issued an arrest warrant.
The 68-year-old was moved to hospital after he complained of "discomfort" in the chest.
