Yogendra Yadav suggested that Haryana government should review OBC status on the basis of 2011 Census.

Gurgaon: Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav on Friday urged the Haryana government to review the reservation given under the Other Backward Classes quota as per the 2011 Census.

Mr Yadav, the national convener of Jai Kisan Andolan and a former Aam Aadmi Party leader, in an open letter to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar suggested that the state government should review the OBC status on the 2011 Census basis (including social, economic status and castes) and prepare new lists according to the facts.

He said that not only Jats but other castes should be included in the OBC list if they really deserve it.

Supporters of Mr Yadav and another former AAP leader Prashant Bhushan recently launched 'Sadbhavna Manch' to conduct a survey in the state after the Jat's violent agitation from February 14 to 23 in Haryana.

Mr Yadav said the recent agitation by the Jats to demand job quota in the OBC category had badly hit communal harmony among various castes since one side was demanding quota while others were opposing it.

The state government had agreed to provide special backward class (SBC) status for the Jats in Haryana but the community is demanding OBC quota.

Mr Yadav said if the Jats were given reservation after their violent agitation, it would send a wrong message to one and all.
