A day after stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava suffered a cardiac arrest and was hospitalised, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and today dialled his wife Shikha Srivastava.
Yogi Adityanath assured her all possible help and instructed officers to extend help to the family of the popular comedian who is reportedly "critical and on ventilator".
Mr Srivastava, 58, had suffered a cardiac arrest while working out in gym yesterday and was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he underwent angioplasty.
He is in a "critical" condition and is "on ventilator", reported news agency PTI quoting sources.
Mr Singh said in a tweet he spoke to AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria and Mr Srivastava's wife.
"Spoke to AIIMS director Dr. Guleria, over the phone regarding the wellbeing of popular comedian Raju Srivastava. Spoke to his wife too and consoled him. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of Raju Srivastava," the defence minister said.
Mr Srivastava, one of the most successful stand-up comedians in the country and a popular name on television, is the current chairman of the Film Development Council of Uttar Pradesh.
He received his first recognition after participating in the first season of stand-up comedy show "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge".
Mr Srivastava, who has been active in the entertainment industry since the late 1980s, has appeared in Bollywood movies like "Baazigar" and "Maine Pyar Kiya". He also participated in season three of Bigg Boss.
