New Delhi:

Yogi Adityanath will be sworn in for his second term as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister next Friday, the BJP has said.

The ceremony will take place at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium at 4 pm, a senior party official said.

Senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minster Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP national president JP Nadda, are likely to attend the event, news agency PTI reported, quoting sources.

Chief Ministers of other BJP-ruled states are also expected to attend the function, they said, adding that top leaders of opposition parties will also be invited.

Before the ceremony, Adityanath will be formally elected as the leader of the party in the assembly on Tuesday at a BJP legislature party meeting where Amit Shah and National Vice President Raghubar Das will be present as observers.

There was no word yet on the size of Adityanath's new cabinet or names finalised for various ministries.

The BJP scored a historic win in the state elections, results of which were declared last week, marking the first time a party returned to power in India's most politically vital state in 37 years.

The party won 255 seats in the 403-member assembly and its allies won 18 more. The tally was 43 lower than the last elections but the party's vote share saw a climb.

Its main challenger, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, won 125 seats - 73 more than last time.

Yogi Adityanath was a member of the legislative council until he contested his first assembly election this time and won from the Gorakhpur Urban constituency.

Following the BJP's win, Adityanath's return as Chief Minister was the most certain among the four states it retained.

He has, since then, held two rounds of talks with the BJP's central leadership in Delhi including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussing candidates for his cabinet and post-election strategy.
