While the extraordinary designs and futuristic products of the auto giants got ample of attention at the Auto Expo 2012, the young students too managed to grab some eyeballs with their unique creations.
With a 500cc Royal Enfield engine, a group of students from IIT Roorkee created their own version of the Formula 1. The car has already made its debut in Formula SAE Australia last year, where the group finished 23rd.
This time the 17-member gang intends to take the design to Formula SAE Italy that will be held this September.
Explaining the specialty of their creation, Aneesh Mittal, a team member, said, "We paid a lot of emphasis on safety and hence, we didn't use a heavy engine. However, with the engine of our choice, the car can run to a maximum speed of 120 km/h."
Likewise, TEAM XTREME, a group of students from Delhi Technical University (DTU), have created an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) using a special technology called as Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which means one doesn't need to use clutch and gears at all. "We'll be participating at mini BAJA at Indore, and then will be taking part in a race that will be held in the USA," said Shubham Garg, a third year mechanical student.
Interestingly, the group has been asked by an auto company to make 305cc ATV from them.
It's not the racing car or an ATV that has attracted industry experts. The creation of National Institute of Design (NID) students -- an electric scooter -- was appreciated by all. Called as Veez, which means electricity in Marathi, the loved by auto experts. "I have made it in full scale model so that people can see the details of the product. It took me one month for doodling and making the clay structure," said Saurav Garg, a NID student. He added that senior officials of various auto companies visited my stall and appreciated his work. "I also got an offer to work with one of the company," he said gleefully.
Fiasco? Not reallyTaking automobile designing to a different level altogether, a group of 14 students from School of Planning and Architecture came up with car designs influenced by the traits of some popular politicians.
Working on a project titled 'Political Fiasco of 2011-2012', they redesigned a Mahindra Xylo, that highlighted the personality traits of politicos like Manmohan Singh, Sachin Pilot, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Mamata Banerjee.
"We were given the liberty to choose any politician of our choice. We never imagined we'll have so much fun while working on the design," said a student, adding that they have scribbled the personality traits of politicians on the car to make is easier for the people to understand.
