Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's son-in-law is in trouble with the Election Commission. Brother Anil Kumar, an evangelist, is now being accused of using religious forums to seek votes in favour of the Congress.
On Tuesday, three pastors including Anil Kumar were reportedly found with over 10 lakh rupees at a lodge in Karimnagar.
V Subba Rao, Andhra's Chief Electoral Officer, says: "We have to see who is actually guilty. We have found somebody in possession of unauthorised money or unauthorised liquor. The person who is found in position of that has to be taken to task and we are booking cases against them. If we find in future investigation there is link between then and some other persons we will not hesitate to take action.''
The police have seized pamphlets that reportedly claimed that it was due to similar prayers that God had elected the previous government.
BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar says: "If they are trying to convert people to Christianity and use money power to win elections, we definitely oppose.''
The police have said they were told the money was meant for religious purposes, not connected to elections, and no case was registered.
