New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday condoled the death of Indian-origin mountaineer Renu Fotedar in an avalanche on Mount Everest on April 25.
"I am shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic incident. This tragic incident has snatched a bright and noble soul from us. I convey my deepest condolences to her family on her untimely death and pray to god to give them strength to bear this irreparable loss," the minister said in a statement.
Mr Fotedar was killed in the avalanche, triggered by the 7.9 earthquake, which struck the Everest base camp on April 25.
Mr Fotedar, an avid mountaineer, was on her maiden expedition to the world's highest peak when she was caught up in the avalanche.
She hailed from Srinagar and was settled in Australia.
She was doing remarkable work in the field of behaviour science and holistic healing, the statement added.
