Houston:
Over 3,500 people in Houston from all walks of life are eagerly waiting to grab their mats and salute the Sun along with the yogis from around the world during the first-ever International Day of Yoga on Sunday.
Consulate General of India, Houston would be celebrating the first International Day of Yoga on Sunday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at George R Brown Convention Center, in close coordination with Patanjali Yogpeeth and numerous other Houston Yoga schools.
"It is our pleasure to bring together a large number of diverse Houstonians and institutions for celebrating the first International Day of Yoga in a befitting manner," Harish Parvathaneni, Consul General of India, told PTI.
"I encourage all Houstonians to perform Yoga and actively participate in this free event with interactive Yoga sessions and 'Yoga fair' to spread the message of Yoga for peace and harmony," said Mr Parvathaneni.
"Houston has a vibrant Yoga family and there are many Yoga centres from different parts of the world. It is an opportunity to remove the duality and promote the spirit of oneness between mind and body, thought and action and man nature," he said.
The Yoga Day demonstrations will include a special session devoted to children and another demonstration will show how to do Yoga while sleeping.
Also, 15 Yoga teachers who exhibited exceptional service in the field for over an extended period of time in Houston and the surrounding areas will be presented with service awards.
