Washington: A 47-year-old Indian-American woman in the US state of New Jersey has been arrested on charges of murdering her mother-in-law in their residence.
Tasneem Diwan was arrested on Friday, a day after she allegedly struck her mother-in-law Safia Diwan, 73, in the head numerous times with an unknown object in their New Jersey home, law enforcement officials said.
According to a police statement, East Windsor police responded to the residence on the evening of January 26, after receiving an emergency '911' call.
Upon arrival, police found the victim lying dead in the residence. An autopsy indicated the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
The police said there was no forced entry to the home. Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert Billmeier has set Diwan's bail at USD 1 million.
