Indian national arrested in Kathmandu on charges of acquiring Nepali citizenship by illegal means.

An Indian national has been arrested in Kathmandu on charges of acquiring Nepali citizenship through illegal means.
As per a preliminary investigation, Shyam Lal Sarawagi had acquired Nepali citizenship on the basis of descent from Kathmandu District Administration Office by producing fake documents, according to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Office.
According to the police, he was a resident of Gujarat, but has been residing at Indrachowk in the heart of the Kathmandu city for some time.
A special police team dispatched from the Metropolitan Crime Division arrested Sarawagi from Kuleshwor in the outskirts of Kathmandu on Tuesday, police said.
The 61-year-old man also holds an Indian voter identity card, according to the police.
Meanwhile, police has handed over Sarawagi to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation under the Citizenship Act, 2006.
Photocopies of his Nepali citizenship certificate, Indian voter identity card and Nepali voter identity card have also been handed over.
