The woman had spent 2 nights in custody and had pleaded guilty to assaulting her husband.
London:
A 62-year-old Indian-origin woman today escaped jail time after she pleaded guilty to assaulting her cheating husband in a drunken state.
Jaginder Singh is said to have snapped and hit her businessman husband Narinder Singh because he spent just part of the week at their home near Manchester and the rest with his mistress.
The woman admitted assault by beating and was conditionally discharged for 12 months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of 20 pounds.
"We understand that you have spent two nights in custody. We do require you to get help immediately and to help yourself and your family," Judge Belinda Krieke said at Manchester Magistrates' Court.
According to 'The Daily Telegraph', the couple belong to a well-known Sikh family in the area and the row broke out last Friday when Narinder tried to usher his drunken wife inside their 1.4-million-pounds home in Hale Barns, Cheshire, near Manchester.
She grabbed his hair and slapped him in the face as their daughter confiscated a bottle of wine from her, the court was told.
Jaginder then stumbled and fell back and hit her head on a glass table. Both police and paramedics were called and she was treated for a cut to her head before spending two days in custody.
Her husband, who was uninjured during the incident, attended the hearing yesterday and said his wife's drinking had been "having a negative impact on the family".
Prosecutor Lynne Rogers said: "Mr Singh was out when he received a phone call from his daughter saying that his wife was very drunk and he needed to come home now.
"When he returned home, Mrs Singh was outside in the street. She then grabbed onto his hair and proceeded to slap him round the face. The complainant felt he had no other option but to call the police himself. He tried to help her but she would not help herself."
The couple had been together for 43 years but 12 years ago Narinder Singh fathered two other children with another woman.
"Mr Singh now spends two nights a week with this woman and their two children and the rest of the time at home with his wife and their two grown-up children and grandchildren," the court was told.
The couple were seen leaving the court together and refused to make any comment.
