London: Three Indian students and two teachers from a school in Maharashtra have travelled to the UK as part of the 'Karta initiative' which aims to connect bright low-income students with world class higher education.
The non-profit 'Karta initiative' works in collaboration with Tata Trusts.
The students and teachers from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) were hosted at the Indian High Commission in London on Monday.
Indian high commissioner to the UK, Navtej Sarna encouraged the students to "make the most of this unique opportunity of learning and interaction, and to share the knowledge and experiences gained at the UK institutions with fellow students and teachers back in India".
Founded by Ranjita Rajan, the 'Karta initiative' was launched this year as a pilot scheme to bring students and teachers from India to participate in an intensive two-week programme at Pembroke and Somerville Colleges at University of Oxford.
Senior High Commission officials also conducted a roundtable session with 'Karta initiative' group to explain the role of the various wings of the Indian mission in London.
