Judith D'Souza, an Indian woman kidnapped last month from Kabul in Afghanistan, arrived in India on Saturday after being rescued.
Ms D'Souza, 40, whose family lives in Kolkata, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj after her arrival.
PM Modi welcomed Judith to India and thanked Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for extending cooperation towards her release.
Ms D'Souza who works for Agha Khan Foundation - an international NGO - as a senior technical adviser, was kidnapped on June 9 by suspected terrorists right outside her office in the heart of Kabul. Kolkata-based Judith was in Kabul for over a year on her second stint in the Afghan capital.
On Saturday, Ms Swaraj tweeted that said that Ms D'Souza had been rescued and will reach Delhi in the evening.She also tweeted praise for Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Manpreet Vohra for his efforts to secure Judith's release.
After Ms D'Souza's arrival in New Delhi, a visibly emotional Ms Swaraj embraced her warmly, saying "the daugther has returned home".
Judith's family had last month written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging his intervention in ensuring that she is reunited with them.
Ms Swaraj had spoken to Judith's family and assured them that the government was "doing everything to rescue her".
