New Delhi is making last-minute efforts to save an Indian man facing execution today in Indonesia, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has said.
Gurdip Singh, 48, was sentenced to death after being found guilty of smuggling drugs into Indonesia in 2004.
"Gurdip Singh is facing death sentence in a drug case in Indonesia. We are making last minute efforts to save him from execution on July 28," Ms Swaraj said in tweets on Wednesday.
Mr Singh, who is from Jalandhar in Punjab, is among 14 people facing the firing squad more than a year after 14 others, mostly foreigners, were executed for drug crimes to massive international condemnation.
The executions are to be carried out at Nusakambangan prison island.
Indonesia has among the world's toughest drug laws and removed a temporary ban on death penalties three years ago despite protests by rights groups.
