Dubai: A leading UAE-based remittance firm has decided to waive off the commission for money transfers donated for Chennai flood victims to help in flow of more funds to the deluge-hit state.

Remittance, foreign exchange and payment solutions firm UAE Exchange has waived off fees for all remittances to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund Tamil Nadu State, India and the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund India.

The company has come up with the initiative in a bid to help the Chennai flood victims. People, willing to donate money for the cause, can walk in to any of branches of UAE Exchange to send money to designated bank accounts for free.

"Those willing to donate for this cause can walk in to any UAE Exchange branch and send money for free," said UAE Exchange CEO Promoth Manghat.

He said the decision was taken to help flow of more funds at a time when it is badly needed.

Torrential rains have lashed several parts of Tamil Nadu including state capital Chennai, severely affecting life and disrupting communications and transport system.

Nearly 250 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state.

UAE Exchange has supported the flood victims in Pakistan, The Philippines and earthquake victims in Nepal and India; as well as Tsunami victims in India among others.
