4 Jaipur cloth merchants held for faking big brands

Jaipur: Jaipur police arrested four cloth merchants in Khazane Walon Ka Rasta on Sunday afternoon for selling duplicate clothes of a popular brand. The police along with the officials of the cloth company raided a few shops in the area, which are stockist of popular brands and house a huge range of fabric.

During the raid, the police found that four shops were selling duplicate clothes of a popular brand. They have also arrested Kishan Agarwal, owner of Kotputli Enterprise, Inder Rawat, owner of Rawat Textile, Ashok Khetani, owner of Abhinandan Textile, and Rajkumar Godwani, owner of Satguru Textile, for selling duplicate clothes.

Informing the media, Kotwali station house officer (SHO) Srichand Purohit said, "We have arrested the four shopkeepers on charges of violation of the Copyright and Trademark Act. We have also registered cases of cheating against them."

During the investigation, it was found that all the duplicate clothes in the shops were of well-known brands. "Moreover, the accused have put up banners of the brand outside their shops to attract customers," Purohit said and added that the cloth merchants also claimed that they were authorised dealer of the brand. "The officials of the company checked the clothes, which the shops were selling and found that they were duplicate clothes. After that, we arrested the accused and registered the cases against them," the SHO said.

A few days ago, the officials of the company had complaint against the shopkeepers, following which the police raided the shops. The police have recovered around 200 bulks of duplicate clothes of a popular brand. "All the clothes were found duplicate. There was not a single bulk of cloth, which was original, in the shop. The shop owners dealt in duplicate clothes of a company to make big money," the police said.
