Australian girl found dead in Jaipur hotel

Jaipur: The body of a 22-year-old Australian girl was found in a heritage hotel here early Thursday morning, police said.

The cause of death is yet to be ascertained as the police are awaiting the arrival of Australian embassy officials from Delhi. The post-mortem will be conducted in their presence.

Ramganj police station SHO Narendra Singh told IANS that the girl, Kathleen Adam Brook, was a resident of Melbourne's Fitzroy area.

"She had come to India with her friend, Anthony Jones. She arrived in Jaipur Wednesday afternoon and checked into a heritage hotel in Ramganj area," said the officer.

They were visiting India on a five-month visa, he added.

"Anthony says that they had visited some markets in the walled city Wednesday evening and returned to the hotel. He checked on her around 3.30 a.m. and found her unconscious. By the time medical help reached the hotel, she was dead," said Singh.

Police have found sleeping pills and some other medicines from the room.

"The girl had consumed two sleeping pills before going to bed Wednesday night. Prima facie, we have found nothing suspicious," said Singh.

The body has been kept in the mortuary of the SMS Hospital. "The embassy has been informed. We are expecting someone's arrival Friday," he said.
