Jaipur:
Mahesh Chand Sharma is a compounder in a hospital in Jaipur. He is also reportedly a billionaire with assets worth more than a whopping Rs 100 crore. Among other properties, Mr Sharma reportedly owns over nursing colleges, a hospital, a resort and several houses in Jaipur.
He was arrested today while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
"Currently we have the immovable properties including buildings and colleges in our knowledge. We had got information that he had bought a building worth Rs 20 to 22 crore. We can assume that he has more property in other places as well," said Anti-Corruption Bureau's Deputy Inspector General Govind Narayan Purohit.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau had been tracking Mr Sharma for months. Mr Sharma was recently made an advisor at the Indian Nursing Council (INC). According to officials, every nursing college in the state had to pay him a bribe for getting an INC approval for accreditation, new courses and increase in seats.
Mr Sharma has been arrested on charges of extortion, accepting bribes and amassing disproportionate assets.
The compounder has reportedly alleged that chief of the INC was also involved in the racket.
