Jaipur: Ugly scenes were witnessed today at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation's general body meeting where BJP and Congress councillors engaged in a scuffle and a Congress councillor allegedly hurled footwear at Mayor Nirmal Nahta. The footwear missed its target.
On the second day of the meeting, BJP councillor Man Pandit compared the development works done during the term of the current Mayor (BJP) with those during the previous Mayor's (Congress) regime which irked the Congress councillors.
A heated argument ensued and the Congress councillors rushed to the Well shouting slogans against the BJP which led to a brief scuffle.
Amid the chaos, Congress Councillor Suman Gurjar allegedly hurled a footwear at the Mayor, but it did not him and fell near his podium.
"Congress councillors created a nuisance at the meeting when I said Rs 80 crore were spent in two years during the previous Mayor's rule and Rs 280 crore have so far been spent during the current Mayor's term. The Congress members objected to it and one of them hurled the footwear," Mr Pandit said.
Congress councillor Mohan Meena accused Mr Pandit of "passing derogatory remarks" against the Congress members and said it evoked a "strong opposition".
"Pandit's remarks on the Congress members were derogatory and objectionable and therefore, we protested," he said, adding that the Congress councillors have demanded action against the BJP member from the Mayor.
The meeting had to be adjourned and the councillors separated. It resumed after a while.
Development works in the wards and transportation of waste are two of the main issues on the agenda of the stormy meeting which began on Monday.
