Jaipur:
Four kids were charred to death in a hamlet in Barmer when fire engulfed their home on Thursday.
According to police, the fire broke out as a lamp came into contact with a heap of grass, which fell on the children's bed.
The four siblings were alone at home as their mother was away to attend a marriage party.
The deceased, identified as Nimba Ram, 16, Karna Ram, 12 and their sisters Jeti, 8 and Chaku, 4, were sleeping in a room together.
"When the stack of hay fell on their bed they failed to react instantaneously and were burnt in the blaze," a police officer told DNA over phone from Barmer.
Asked if there was any kind of conspiracy behind the fire accident, a senior police officer of the district said, "Prima facie it appears to be an accident still we are probing every aspect relating to the case. If anything concrete is found to indicate that it was a conspiracy, we would not spare anyone relating to the case."
Meanwhile, the police said that the cause of the death was probably suffocation and excessive burn injuries.
Later, when parents of the children were informed they became unconscious in the hospital.
Many neighbours and even some police officers had tears in their eyes when they saw the grieved parents in the hospital.
The district administration of Barmer has announced an ex-gratia of `4 lakh to the grieved family.
Fire incidents are common in Rajasthan during winters because of lack of awareness among people about the harmful effects of using a stove or woodfire in closed rooms.
While many people get asphyxiated due to emissions from such fires, others get killed because of accidents caused by flames or sparks.
