Jaipur:
Women in Rajasthan will be exempted from paying fares while travelling in state roadways buses tomorrow on the occasion of International Women's Day.
"The facility of free travel for women will be available tomorrow in all the buses of Rajasthan State Road and Transport Corporation across the state. Tickets will be issued but no fare will be charged from female passengers," an RSRTC official said. He added that the exemption will apply to all categories, including the Volvo (except on the Jaipur-Delhi route), for 24 hours beginning at 1200 hours tomorrow.
Several functions will also be organised all over the state to mark the day, a senior official said.
"Activities have been planned at state, divisional, block, Gram panchayat and Aanganbadi levels to celebrate Women's Day. A national exhibition will be held here where handicraft items made by women's self-help groups will be made available for sale," said Sarita Singh, Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Development.
"We have also planned meetings at the Aanganbadi level which will focus on the importance of girls' education and empowerment. A film of women empowerment will also be screened at Jawahar Kala Kendra here," she said.
