Gang involved in tampering with board answer sheets busted

Jaipur: A gang involved in tampering with the answer sheets of class X and XII examinations of Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has been busted in Sawaimadhopur district in Jaipur, police said on Monday.

The accused used to secure the answer sheets from a copy collection centre in Mantown area and then gave them to concerned students to make additions to their originally written answers by charging Rs 2,000 for each copy, police said.

They used to later send the answer sheets to the board office in Ajmer, they said.

Following a tip off, the police conducted a raid in the wee hours on Sunday and nabbed two homeguards Man Singh Meena and Rajesh Meena who in connivance with the in-charge of the centre Omprakash Kumawat and two other government employees used to pass the answer sheets to the students.

"The accused used to pass the answer sheets to a nearby government quarter where concerning students used to make additions to their copies.

At the spot, eight students were also nabbed while many students managed to escape. Over one thousand answer sheets and books were also recovered from the spot," the police said.

Meanwhile, the government employees - Omprakash Kumawat, Shambhudayal Sharma, Mukesh Harijan-- have been suspended and the homeguard department has been informed about the case.

"We have written to the homeguard department seeking action against their two employees. We have ensured the security of other collection centres in the state and directed the concerned staff to conduct intense inspection of centres and report us daily," Subhash Garg, chairman of the RBSE, Ajmer, said.
