Jaipur: Two workers died and nine others fainted on Friday after they inhaled poisonous gas at a zinc plant in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district, police said.
Enraged over the incident, workers protested outside the plant and burnt three vehicles including a police van and vandalised property, SP Rajsamand Rahul Katkey said.
"Some poisonous gas leaked out leaving Devi Lal and Madhav, both aged around 35 years, dead," he said, adding the cause of the leakage was not known.
Nine others fainted and were hospitalised in Udaipur where their condition is stated to be stable.
After the incident, plant workers held protests against the company's management and pelted stones at police and set ablaze three vehicles and damaged the entry gate of the plant," Katkey said.
In the stone pelting, two policemen were injured.
"Additional force was rushed to the spot to control the situation. The agitating mob was dispersed and the law and order is now under control," he said, adding, that cases against the agitating employees will be lodged.
