Women make up 30 per cent of Jaipur Metro's staff
Jaipur:
The Shyam Nagar Metro Station in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur is a first of its kind.
From running the operations of the metro, to supervising customer and passengers at the station, to taking care of the upkeep and cleanliness at the station, everything is handled by women staff.
"The entire staff here is female. It is easy to work and coordinate with them. Most of them are very talented. I have faced no problems at all," said Neha Budhwar, the station supervisor at Shyam Nagar Metro Station.
Along with her is Raksha Rathore, a customer relations assistant at the metro station, who says, "There are no challenges as such faced by us because we are women. Of course there is a message
here that women should always go forward as they are no less than anybody else."
Among the 23 drivers that the Jaipur Metro has, six are women.
"I feel great that I am able to do something different," says Monika Mittal, a metro engine driver.
For Jaipur Metro, this is no mere coincidence. They have made it a policy to hire as many women as possible; right now 30 per cent of its staff are women.
