In Jaipur, police a nightmare for vehicle lifters

Jaipur: Whenever an incident of vehicle lifting is reported in Jaipur, the police department resorts to the Kanota police. The police station has foiled more than 2 dozen vehicle- lifting bids this year and is gradually becoming a nightmare for carjackers.

There are several reasons why the Kanota police station has rose to prominence. Inspector general of police, Jaipur Range-1, BL Soni told DNA on Tuesday, "Most of the vehicle lifters belong to Dausa, Bharatpur, Karuali districts of the state and if they wish to escape to Agra they have to pass through Kanota. The Kanota police sitting at the critical juncture of the Kanota-Agra Road is has been equipped with two modern four-wheelers, including a Bolero and Travera."

Complimenting the Kanota police for their success, Soni revealed, "In almost five cases a police team from Kanota chased vehicle lifters for many kilometres even when the miscreants open fired at them." The officials deputed in the rural district of the city police (which comes under Jaipur Range) the staff on the two vehicles is deployed on rotational basis everyday.
"There are 3 shifts of eight hours each in which at least six policemen remain in each vehicle," Soni added.

The IG added, "It has become virtually mandatory for every concern station house officer to intimidate the Kanota police team soon after a case of vehicle lifting is reported in the city." It is noteworthy that the Kanota police had successfully foiled many vehicle lifters, mostly of four-wheelers.

Overwhelmed with the response of the Kanota police team, the officers are planning to equip the station with more modernised vehicles. "I would try to get them two more fast-paced vehicles. I think the police station has shown tremendous performance after they were given two modern vehicles," Soni added.
