JDA razes eight shops for underpass

Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) razed eight shops at Gurjar Ki Thari on Wednesday. These shops were falling in the area demarcated for an underpass to be constructed to connect the Ajmer road with Gopalpur bypass.

The enforcement cell of JDA demolished these shops in the afternoon. The JDA officials said that the owners of four shops had already vacated their properties in favour of JDA. "But four others did not vacate their shops.

That's why we had deposited compensation for in court earlier. On Wednesday, finally we have demolished all the shops," a JDA official said. The land required for the project. The shops were falling on the area of slip lane near the proposed underpass.

The JDA needed land of the shops to dig the underpass. The sources said that Congress MLA Pratap Singh Khachariavas intervened in the demolition work and tried to delay the action. However Khachariavas rejected such allegation. He said that some shopkeepers had visited him in the morning and complained about JDA's action.

"It is a rumour that I obstructed the JDA work. Indeed I just telephoned JDA officials to allow shopkeepers to vacate the shops willingly. And they have done the same," clarified Khachariavas. Notably, the JDA has started work of the underpass project which has the deadline of April 12, 2011.
