Jaipur: A 75-year-old man was beaten to death in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district, after being accused of being an 'evil spirit', police said on Thursday. Three men have been arrested.
The attackers saw the victim, Ramu Gujjar late on Wednesday, seated near the funeral pyre of a man killed in an accident a day earlier.
"Ramesh Rohila had been cremated on Wednesday. Some of his relatives saw Ramu sitting near his pyre late at night" in Rampura village, 170 km from here, a police officer said
They thought he was doing witchcraft. They took him to their house and tied him to a tree and severely beat him up."
Gujjar's family found his body on Thursday morning and contacted the police.
