Jaipur:
A pistol-wielding youth on Tuesday stormed a girls' hostel, held a student hostage in order to meet a girl he fell in love with before turning the weapon on himself after being spurned by her in Rajasthan's Jhalwar district.
Lal Bahadur, a 2nd year student of a polytechnic college in Jaipur, was in love with a 1st-year student in Jhalawar engineering college, police said adding it was a one-sided affair. He had visited her college in January this year.
On Tuesday, he forced his entry into the girls' hostel room by opening fire from his pistol. He then took hostage a 3rd-year girl student and asked her roommate to call the girl he loved.
The girl rushed to the hostel warden and police were informed.
"We tried to make him understand but he was adamant to meet the girl. He threatened to shoot the girl he had taken hostage in the room if his demand was not met," Circle Officer Patan Brajesh Soni said.
On being requested by everybody and on condition that the girl he wanted to meet will be called, Lal Bahadur released his hostage, after which the 1st-year girl was called.
As she spoke to him from outside the room she made it clear that she was not interested in any relationship with him.
The drama continued for two hours. Meanwhile, the hostel was evacuated and police surrounded the area.
When the girl refused to accept his love, Lal Bahadur shot himself in the room, Mr Soni said.
"We opened the door and found his lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to severe head injury", Mr Soni said, adding his family members have been informed about the entire matter.
