Mentally-challenged boy dies of food poisoning in state-run welfare home in Jaipur
Jaipur: A 14-year-old mentally-challenged boy died in Jaipur today due to alleged food poisoning at a state-run home meant for mentally-challenged women and children.

The child was admitted to the JK Lon hospital where he died due to severe vomitting and diarrhoea at about 2 am on Friday morning.

Two other children with similar symptoms are presently undergoing treatment at the hospital and are said to be out of danger. Infact, doctors said they will be discharged today.

Nobody from the state-run institution commented on the matter. Infact, reporters were not allowed inside the home even to talk to staff there. They were refused entry on the grounds that a Chief Judicial Magistrate's permission was required before outsiders could visit the home.

However, doctors who attended to the child said they had informed the police and the collector about his death.

His body has been sent for post-mortem as this is a medico-legal case.

Dr SD Sharma, the hospital superintendent, said, "Three children from the social welfare home were brought to our hospital. He (The 14-year-old boy) had diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration. The paramedical staff tried to revive him and he died at 1.50 am."

"The third child was brought in the same condition but he is recovering. We have informed the authorities. It's probably due to contamination of food and water," he said.
