Jaipur:
Minutes after her birth, a baby girl was abandoned by a couple in a hospital in Jaipur. According to the hospital, the couple left the baby and waited around to see if the staff would pick her up.
The couple later threatened the hospital staff that if they are asked too many questions, they would abandon the baby some place else.
Currently, the baby who was been named Ananya, is being looked after the Children's hospital.
Doctors say that this is not new, and hospitals encounter such case often.
"Every week we get at least two abandoned infants like this one. Sometimes they are left on the road outside our hospital or close to a garbage dump. Mostly its girls who are abandoned but just two days ago, even a boy was left abandoned," said Dr S D Sharma , Superintendent of the JK Lon Children's hospital.
Rajasthan has one of the highest rates of crimes against women. Several incidents of female infanticide have been reported in the recent past even as the state government has prepared a special 'girls policy' for saving the girl child.
