Jaipur: Four days after she was brought to a hospital in Jaipur in critical condition, Baby Damini is showing signs of recovery. Doctors say the malnourished infant has put on 200 gms -she weighed a paltry 1.4 kilos when she was admitted and diagnosed with septicemia and other infections.
The one-month old baby and her father settled into India's heart last week, after a report on ndtv.com that said Babloo, a rickshaw puller, was cycling around with his baby girl attached to his chest. His wife had died in childbirth. A few NGOs near his home in Bharatpur had offered to keep Damini in daycare, but Babloo wasn't willing to be parted from his only child.
Donations poured into his bank account -many from outside India - and the Rajasthan government made arrangements to treat Damini at a private hospital in Jaipur, all expenses are covered.
