Jaipur:
A school teacher on Monday killed his colleague when the latter was giving a lecture and later tried to commit suicide with the same gun.
He was rushed to the SMS hospital in the city and his condition is reported to be critical.
The deceased, identified as Chhagan Lal of Digambar Jain Vidhyalaya in Patonda village, was shot dead by another teacher Pradeep Kumar Mishra. The police suspect it to be a case of enmity.
Mishra stormed into the campus at 11.30 am and shot Chhagan Lal at point-blank range with an illegal 32 bore pistol in front of students and staff member, said superintendent of police (Karauli) Mahendra Singh.
Lal, who received the bullet in his chest, died on the spot. Mishra then rushed to an empty classroom, bolted the door from inside and shot himself, too. However, the bullet pierced through his forehead and got stuck in the shoulder. The staff slammed the door open and rushed Mishra to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to SMS Hospital, added Singh.
The assailant had come fully prepared to kill his colleague as he had written "dying declaration" before the act, the SP said, adding that Mishra had even sent his family to ancestral home in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh some days ago.
Both the teachers shared a discordant relation because of internal groupism in the school, but it was too early to say anything, the SP said.
The police have recovered a note from Mishra's bag along with four live cartridges. In his note, the assailant has written that Chhagan Lal had been harassing him for days. The deceased had insulted him publicly and had even attempted to get him beaten up. Mishra's dying declaration states that after his death, his eyes should be donated and his body should be handed over to a medical college.
