Three inmates killed in clash in Rajasthan jail

Jaipur: Three inmates of a prison in Rajasthan were killed while another inmate and a guard were injured when a prisoner, said to be mentally challenged, attacked them with a brick on Friday, police said.

A senior police officer said the attack took place in Bikaner Central Jail, some 500 km from Jaipur.

"A 40-year-old prisoner named Ram Singh, who is a murder convict and has undergone psychiatric treatment for violent behaviour, got into a fight with another prisoner inside the prison's toilets," the officer said.

The man used a brick to hit Pawan Kumar, who is undergoing trial, on his head and when two other prisoners, Moolaram and Karnail Singh, intervened, he attacked them too.

"These three prisoners were declared dead at a hospital due to serious injuries on their head. A jail security guard and another prisoner were also injured. Both are undergoing treatment," said the officer.

Police have registered a case against Muslim, while judicial and administrative enquiries have also been ordered into the incident.
