Jaipur:
Two people were killed and four others were injured as a four-storey under-construction building collapsed in Jaipur early this morning. Rescuers fear some more people may have got trapped under the debris.
The building in the city's Bhatta Basti area is believed to have weakened due to rain.
"We got a call at around 3.30 a.m. of a building collapse...we started rescue and relief operations. Two were found dead while four others were rescued and taken to hospital where there are undergoing treatment," said a police official.
He also added that relief and rescue efforts were underway to help those trapped.
"I heard a loud explosion at around 3 a.m. When I opened my eyes I found a four-storey building in front of me turned into debris. I started to search for those living in the building and soon police was at the spot," said a man living in an adjacent building.
Those living in the neighbourhood say many residents of the building were not home at the time of the collapse as they had gone to their native villages due to extended weekend on account of Eid and Teej festivals.
