Jammu: At least 20 people were killed when a mini bus in which they were travelling fell from a hilly road into the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, police said.
"We have recovered 20 bodies," said Muneesh Kumar Sinha, deputy inspector general of police of Doda range. "But we are still engaged in searches."
According to police, the mini bus was on its way from Gandoh to Thatri in the mountainous Doda district. The bus rolled down at least 300 feet below from the hilly road.
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
Sinha said since the bus rolled into a gorge, "it was imperative to search the whole area".
Sinha told IANS over phone that one of two rescued people was in critical condition.
