Cold waves continued to grip Kashmir division as the minimum temperatures across the regionstayed below freezing point with Leh town in Ladakh being the coldest place recording a low of minus 12.4 degrees Celsius.Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir and Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir were the coldest places in the Valley recording an identical low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius, an official of the MeT department said. The two famous tourist destinations were warmer by 2.4 degrees C as compared to yesterday.Srinagar city, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed a drop of 0.6 degrees recording a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir valley, recorded a minimum of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in Kupwara settled at a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius. Although the Chillai Kalan -- the 40-day harsh part of winter in Kashmir -- has ended, there was no let off in the cold wave conditions in the Valley.Meanwhile, Ladakh region also saw the mercury dipping by a degree last night. Leh town recorded minus 12.4 degrees Celsius and Kargil town registered minus 11.8 degreesCelsius.
