Jammu:
With the detection of five more cases, including a one-year-old child, the total number of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease has risen to 33 in the Jammu region.
"Five persons were tested positive for dengue yesterday which included three from Jammu, one from Udhampur and one from Kathua," Director of Health Services, Jammu, Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania told PTI.
He said that all the five patients were in the age group of 1-14 years.
He said blood samples of 274 people having dengue-like symptoms were tested for the virus out of which 33 were found positive.
He said that no serious case has so far been reported and majority of the patients suffering from the disease were discharged from various hospitals after successful treatment.
A health advisory has been issued by the Centre which has been widely published in local dailies to create awareness among people about the disease, Dr Pathania said.
People need to take precautions to save themselves from mosquito bites, he said.
The health department claimed that they are fully equipped to treat patients suffering from dengue, adding that no hospital in the region has so far received any patient whose sickness has taken dangerous proportion.
