Jammu:
Coming to the rescue of stranded passengers in Jammu and Ladakh regions, India Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday airlifted 203 stranded people from Leh town to Jammu.
"IAF airlifted 203 stranded people including women and children between Leh to Jammu today," Public Relation Officer, Ministry of Defence, S N Acharya said.
An IL-76 aircraft was pressed into service to ferry the stranded people, mostly belonging to Kargil district of Ladakh region, to Jammu, Acharya said.
However, bad weather conditions forced the airforce to abandon its plan to airlift 65 passengers, he said.
Air sorties would be conducted later when the weather conditions become favourable, the officer said.
