Jammu:
It's a bitter battle against extreme cold for the poor artisans from Uttar Pradesh who recently migrated to Jammu in search of work.
With the mercury dipping to zero at night and with no roof over the head, the battle for survival is bitter.
One such family is Manzoor Ahmad's family of 50 members.
''We have only one blanket each to make beds. We don't have any heating arrangements for the children,'' Manzoor Ahmad says.
Hundreds of artisans migrate to Jammu during these months, hoping to find jobs in the buzzing winter capital of the state. However, this year's extreme cold has caught them off-guard.
''We don't have any money. We light a fire and sit around it at night to keep ourselves warm," says Rubina, a labourer.
As each day ends for Manzoor Ahmad and his family on a chilly note, they do not give up but brace themselves to face another frosty winter morning, struggling to make both the ends meet.
