Jammu:
A former Superintendent of Police (SP) and his security officer were sentenced to life imprisonment in a 13-year-old murder case by a local court on Monday.
Former SP Sewak Singh and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Satpal Singh were convicted for killing a probationary sub inspector (PSI) Ajay Gupta in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The duo was found guilty of fabricating the murder case as an encounter with militants in which Gupta was portrayed as a martyr.
Second additional sessions judge, Jammu, Subash Gupta awarded the sentence after hearing the special public prosecutor, and lawyers representing the accused.
"The court has awarded life imprisonment to the former SP and his PSO for criminal conspiracy to eliminate Gupta," Sharma told reporters here.
He said that the duo had entered into criminal conspiracy to kill Gupta and it had been established by the public prosecutor.
