Hindi Teachers Association Continue Protest Outside CM's Office In Aizwal

New Delhi: Over 1000 Hindi Teachers employed in Mizoram schools under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) continued their protest outside the state Chief Minister's Office in Aizwal. The protest has been going on since yesterday. The teachers have refused to budge despite rain throughout the night. The teachers have demanded that the chief minister take up the matter of delayed salaries with the Central government. The leader of the Hindi Teachers Association informed about the protest that the 1305 High School and Middle School Hindi teachers have not been paid their salaries for the last 10 months.

The leader of the association told Press Trust of India, that it was highly likely that their services would be terminated from February if the Centre doesn't intervene. He also informed that the sit-in protest will continue in front of the Chief Minsiter's office-cum-residence till Saturday. If by Saturday, they do not receive any news in their favor they will decide on the future course of action. Apart from the sit-in protest, the teachers had also staged a pen-down strike last week and had taken out a protest rally in the capital on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the state School Education department clarified that the Hindi teachers were under the employment of Union HRD Ministry. They are on the payroll of Union ministry and not the state government. The School Education Department official told Press trust of India that the decision to continue the  services of the Hindi teachers will be taken by the Centre based onthe recommendations of Lucknow-based Awadh Foundation, which has been given the responsibility to evaluate the scheme under which the Hindi teachers were employed.

In this matter, School Education Minister H. Rohluna along with Joseph Lalhimpuia, Parliamentry Secretary had met Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on October 26 last year. The Chief Minsiter Lal Thanhawla had also sent DO letters to the Prime Minister twice.
