Indian Nurses Hired only Through State-Run Agency In Kuwait, Says Embassy

New Delhi: The Indian embassy in Kuwait recently revealed that the Indian government has designated the recruitment of nurses through a few state-run agencies. The decision was taken to make the process transparent. The embassy in an official statement said that the restriction has been in effect since May 2015. The information was relayed after some private hospitals enquired the embassy about the process of recruitment of Indian nurses. The rule also made it mandatory for the nurses to undergo emigration clearance for recruitment in 18 ECR countries including Kuwait.

According to Press Trust of India, the statement said, "It is reiterated that to streamline the recruitment of Indian nurses for work in Kuwait, the Government of India has restricted since May 2015 the recruitment of nurses through a few designated state-run recruiting agencies and placed nurses under the 'ECR' (Emigration Check Required) regime so that emigration clearance through E-Migrate becomes mandatory for them for any employment in any of the 18 ECR countries."

Other than Kuwait, emigration clearance is required for 16 other nations that is Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Libiya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, the UAE and Yemen, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

The embassy said that the recruitment of Indian nurses through E-Migrate system is very easy, transparent and user-friendly. It said that such agnecies in Kuwait which are keen on recruiting Indian nurses should register themselves with the E-Migrate system. The embassy has also set up an E-Migrate Helpdesk to assist those who wish to register for the system. 

In India six state manpower corporations have been authorized for recruitment of Indian nurses abroad. The six corporations are Norka-Roots Centre, and Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants in Thiruvananthapuram; Overseas Manpower Corporation Ltd, Chennai; UP Financial Corporation, Kanpur; Telangana Overseas Manpower Company, Hyderabad; and the Overseas Manpower Company of Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada.
